Fun Facts

Anyone who knows me knows that I am Beyoncé-crazed. I love her music, videos, dance moves, and the message of female empowerment that she portrays. Anytime any of her songs comes on I am immediately up and dancing. (When she released her new album I probably screamed for a full hour.)

About Me

I am a Senior at NYU, studying Race and Public Policy, a major I designed myself through Gallatin's School of Individualized Study. I plan to get my Master's in Urban Education and Social Work, however I would like to take off for a few years to teach, mentor, and gain more field experience! I am currently, and have been for 2 years now, Chair of African Heritage Month Committee, where I lead the planning of university-wide events in celebration of Black History Month.

I have tutored students for most of my education starting in the Diamond Club in middle school where I tutored my peers in math and reading at my local community center. In High School I was in the National Art Honor's Society, the National Science Honor's Society, and the National Honor's Society and as I member I tutored students in all related subjects and helped them with class projects. Upon entering college I took on a number of volunteering opportunities that included helping graduating high school students with their college essays and manhattan">tutoring elementary students with their math and reading homework. I have also worked as a Corps member for Jumpstart, implementing weekly lessons to improve the reading and verbal skills of pre-k students living in low-income communities.

My manhattan">tutoring approach is positive reassurance. I know that just a simple belief in my ability to solve a problem or master a subject has always kept me motivated, and I like to apply this outlook to my study sessions. Nothing is too hard. Organization is always key to me helping students improve and maintain their grades. This means developing a clear study plan and goal during session but it also helps them outside of our study sessions to manage learning material and notes. I also like to keep my study sessions fun and interesting by using examples and analogies that the student can relate to, as well as quirky mnemonic devices.
