Fun Facts

People are often surprised to learn that I have moved fourteen times, living in twelve states throughout the first sixteen years of my life. In addition to frequent moves, I traveled the United States extensively; I have visited 43 states as of now and plan to visit the remaining states in the future. When I settled in Texas at sixteen, I enrolled at Tarrant County College, where I completed an Honors AA. Now I occupy my free time by working, reading, or training my pet miniature pig, Baby.

About Me

I am a college Junior transferring to the University of Texas at El Paso. I am currently working on two degrees: a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a Chemistry minor, and a Bachelors of Arts in English, with a minor in Writing. I was on the Dean's List consistently throughout my time at Tarrant County College, where I won the Academic Award in English. I obtained an Honors Associates of Arts at age eighteen. I am now pursuing my goal of completing a doctoral degree before age twenty-four.

Experience

During the completion of my Associates degree, I worked at the Tarrant County College Writing Center as a peer tutor. I had no subject restrictions during this time and tutored across a variety of subjects and skill-levels. I have experience with home, private, and public school students, as well as college students. I have worked with students with disabilities: I am comfortable tutoring atypical learners and adjusting to the needs of the student to create a positive learning environment.

Approach

I was a terrible student until my late-life diagnoses of "profoundly gifted" and neurological disability. Bored and frustrated in school, I lacked the understanding to explain or accommodate myself. Transitioning into a successful student impressed upon me the importance of understanding the learning needs of the individual and fostering their strengths. When tutoring, I attempt to learn each student's skills, struggles, and learning style so that we can create a positive learning environment.

Arts Tutoring

I have an Honors Associate of Arts and experience across a variety of related classes. I am currently working on a BA along with my intended BS; I fill most of my electives with Art or Fine Arts classes. I also paint and sell art as a hobby, which has allowed me plentiful first-hand experience.

English Tutoring

I have experience tutoring in English both privately and through Tarrant County College's Writing Center. I was granted TCC's Humanities Academic Award for achievements in English, and maintained a 4.0 throughout my related classes. I am currently pursuing a BA in English along with my originally intended BS in Neuroscience, which allows me experience with a variety of writing requirements.

GED Tutoring

I obtained a Distinguished Achievement Diploma at sixteen. I graduated with a 4.0 and maintained a GPA in excess of 3.8 throughout the acquisition of my Honors Associate of Arts. I have previous experience working in a tutoring capacity with students who are completing their GED and feel comfortable with the process.

Graduate Level Writing Tutoring

I have not completed my own graduate schooling. However, I have experience as a tutor proof-reading graduate level writing. While I do not have ample experience in this field, I feel comfortable with Graduate-level writing and can help students of all levels who wish to ensure technically correct English and grammar.

History Tutoring

All of my college History courses thus far were taken at Honors level and I maintained a 4.0 in those courses. I have plentiful experience tutoring in History and related subjects. I took multiple years of history in high school, obtaining more credits than needed because I enjoy learning history as a hobby.

Philosophy Tutoring

Philosophy and Ethics was a required course for sophomores in my college Honors program. I maintained status as the top student in that course (to my own surprise) because I enjoyed it so much. Completing that class required completion of a 20+ page paper on the subject, which I enjoyed and helped others with. I have experience tutoring Philosophy students at high school and college level.

Psychology Tutoring

I am a dual major student attempting to pursue a graduate degree in Neuroscience. Currently I am working on a BS in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry. The psychology course required for my Associate degree was taken at Honors level and completed with a high A. I have previously had great success tutoring undergraduate Psychology students.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

I am a voracious reader and have been since I was very young. However, I also have a neurological disability and understand that aspects of reading can be a major hinderance to otherwise prepared students. I have experience working with students with learning disabilities, as well as tutoring my own profoundly dyslexic brother and helping him better adapt to his own schooling needs. I have also worked with ESL students and assisted with English and reading skills as a tutor to both high school and college students.

Study Skills Tutoring

As a student myself, I understand the struggles of proper time management and study habits. I worked two jobs, volunteered, and attended school full time while pursuing my Associate degree, which I completed at Honors level and a GPA in excess of 3.8. During my previous job as a tutor through the school, I helped many students better manage their time and develop stronger study skills.
