Fun Facts

Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I love being around kids and watching them grow. I am also passionate about traveling. I have visited Germany, Luxembourg, France, the Bahamas, and 14 states. I also love Clemson football. Go tigers!

About Me

I am a fourth grade math teacher in Charlotte. I work for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school district. I have my degree in Elementary Education from Clemson University.

Experience

I work as a full-time elementary school teacher. As a teacher, I have tutored students after school. In these tutoring sessions, I have seen students grow tremendously. In addition, while I was in college, I tutored elementary school students. I have a lot of experience teaching kids.

Approach

As a teacher, I focus on increasing the confidence of my students and helping them become independent learners. I believe teaching students content, in addition to study skills, is very important. My goal is to help my students grow and feel confident in their learning.

English Tutoring

I took several English courses while attending Clemson. I took the following English courses: English 1030 (Accelerated Composition), English 2140 (American Literature), EDLT 4600 (Teaching Reading Grades 2-6), EDLT 4630 (Teaching Reading/Writing for English Language Learners), and EDLT 4610 (Content Area Reading: Grades 2-6). I made an A in all of these courses. Several of these courses were directed at teaching children how to read.

Homework Coach Tutoring

In regards to helping with homework, I was a teacher for the Goalpost program while attending Clemson. In this program, I tutored students after school at a nearby elementary school. I helped these students complete their homework and meet their goals.

Math Tutoring

During my time at Clemson, I took several math courses. My final grade in all of these courses was an A. These are the math courses that I took: MTHS 1150 and MTHS 1160 (Contemporary Math 1 and Contemporary Math 2), MATH 3160 (Problem Solving for Math Teachers), and EDEL 4520 (Elementary Math Methods Teaching).

Elementary Math Tutoring

In addition to the math courses I took at Clemson, I also have experience teaching elementary school math. I taught one year of third grade math and I am in my second year of teaching fourth grade math. As an elementary school teacher, I plan whole group and small group lessons to meet the needs of my students

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

In addition to the reading courses I took at Clemson, I have also had experience teaching reading comprehension. While working as a Goalpost tutor, I helped students with their reading comprehension. During my time as a student teacher at Powdersville Elementary School, I also planned and taught guided reading groups directed at helping students improve on their reading comprehension.

Study Skills Tutoring

As a teacher, I am constantly helping students with their study skills. In my lessons, I incorporate strategies students can use to improve their study habits. In my small groups, I teach individual strategies for individual's needs.

Writing Tutoring

During my time at Clemson, I took several English courses and courses within my major that helped improve my writing and teach me how to teach others how to write. As a teacher, I help students improve on their writing every day.

Science Tutoring

During my time at Clemson, I took the following science courses: Intro to Physics and Astronomy (PHSC 1180), Intro to Chemistry and Earth Science (PHSC 1170), Intro to Life Science (BIOL 1090), and Elementary Methods in Science Teaching (EDEL 4510). I made an A in all of these courses. I have also taught science to third and fourth grade students for the last three years.

Social Studies Tutoring

While attending Clemson, I took the following Social Studies courses: History of the US (HIST 1020), World Regional Geography (GEOG 1030), and Elementary Methods in Social Studies (EDEL 4870). I received an A in all of these courses. I have also taught social studies to third and fourth graders for the past three years.
