Fun Facts

I play flat track women's roller derby! It is an extremely fast, contact sport. I have gained strength and confidence over the last nine months and am almost ready to play my first game. I'm also an avid reader, having most recently enjoyed "100 Years of Solitude" and "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I write poetry and am preparing for my first spoken word performance.

About Me

I am a first-generation, nontraditional journalism student at the miami">University of Miami. My future academic goal is to be the first in my family to obtain a Master’s degree. I have answered a calling to a life in writing and advocacy, empowering young people and pursuing my interests in journalism, education and social justice. My ultimate goal in life is to inspire more Latinos to pursue higher education and assist them with this journey.

I volunteered with Everybody Wins! South Florida, a reading literacy program for 2nd and 3rd grade children. I witnessed my student improve in her reading-comprehension/florida/miami">reading comprehension and truly enjoy reading.

I believe that students need to be guided in finding the right answers. I approach miami">tutoring as I would coaching: assess whether the student just needs to talk the problem through, needs motivation to accomplish the assignment or knowledge in order to execute. I check for understanding by asking the student to explain the concepts and frequently provide feedback. I also ensure that goals and expectations are set ahead of time by communication with the parents and the student's teacher.
