About Me
I recently returned from serving in Peace Corps Mozambique as an Education and Community Development Volunteer. In August 2019, I will begin law school, focusing on international human rights and public service. Prior to Peace Corps, I worked in operations and project management at GOODCorps, a social impact consultancy. In 2015, I graduated from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill with degrees in Public Policy and Public Relations and was on the Dean's List all 4 years.
Experience
During Peace Corps, I taught 8th and 12th grade English in low-resource classrooms of 40-160 students per room. Outside of school I tutored English, math, science and Portuguese literacy to students of all ages and facilitated youth empowerment and English theater student groups. In the US, I've tutored elementary and high school English, math, history, Italian and study skills from 2008-2015 through volunteering organizations and National Honor Society.
Approach
Teaching in a rural, low-resource school with classrooms representing every academic level taught me to be extremely flexible, creative, patient, and determined. I understand that each student thinks and learns differently and can tailor lessons to meet specific needs. As an unshakeable optimist, positivity, confidence building, and encouragement are constants in my methodology. Furthermore, I will always incorporate study skills and time management lessons in addition to teaching content.

Portuguese Tutoring
After 2.5 years living in Mozambique, I have become proficient in conversational Portuguese and achieved an "advanced" level on my final language proficiency exam through Peace Corps.
Study Skills Tutoring
While in college, I managed to make Dean's list all 4 years while balancing a major, a minor, and a job as a Legal Assistant which I devoted ~20 hrs/wk. In high school, I graduated with a 98% average while remaining actively involved in varsity athletics, student council, and volunteering organizations. These experiences have allowed me to hone in on a variety of effective study techniques, organizational tools, and time management skills that are applicable to any student. Furthermore, teaching in a low-resource school with 100+ students per class during Peace Corps taught me how to help students learn via interactive methods such as games, songs, and puzzles.
ESL Tutoring
I spent 2 years working in a public, low-resource school in Mozambique teaching Portuguese / local language speaking students from 8th-12th grade how to speak, understand, and write in the English Language.
