Fun Facts
I consider myself a well-rounded individual. My passions include hiking, traveling, music, politics, good conversations and high-quality connections among people. Love everything about nature and love exploring new parks and wooded areas when I can. I am originally from Cuba and became a US citizen in 2018. Even after the 6 years that I have lived here, I am still fascinated by this country and the potential of its people.
About Me
I am currently a senior Mechanical Engineering major at the University of New Orleans. Before that, I went to Delgado Community College for two years majoring in biology. After graduating my goal is to continue studies in graduate school for management or mechanical engineering degree. My plans for the future include working in the oil and gas industry while teaching courses at a university. In the University of New Orleans, I have been on the President's List for 3 consecutive semesters.
Experience
I started tutoring very early in high school. I went to a science vocational boarding high school and I was in charge of two focus groups in which I would teach my classmates about math, chemistry, and biology two times per week. Upon entering college, at Havana University, Cuba, I was selected from my classmates to lead a pilot program in which students with high grades would have review sessions on the most difficult subjects. This was created because of a shortage of professors.
Approach
I believe tutors must be knowledgeable, but also must be able to convey the message effectively. One of my most respected mentors once said that bad teachers are an excuse to bad grades and that we should all put the effort ourselves to learn. However, I believe we all have the potential to learn, but low-quality education does indeed affect learning greatly. Students are lost many times, and life gets in the way. So, it is the teacher's job to also help students find the best way to learn.
