Fun Facts

Anyone who knows me really well knows that I love being involved on campus and in my community. I am an active member of over 10 organizations and I do community service at my local recreation center on a weekly basis. I enjoy being apart of something bigger than myself and impacting lives.

About Me

I am a senior Biology major, Journalism minor at Norfolk State University. I have been an Honors College Scholar for the past 4 years at my university. When I graduate, I hope to teach high school Biology in Baltimore City Public Schools while attending grad school at Morgan State University at night. My ultimate goal is to become the President of a university.

Experience

As a recipient of a S.T.E.M. scholarship program on campus, I had the opportunity to tutor college students weekly in their first level Biology and Chemistry courses. I tutored for this program for 2 years. During this time I was able to break down the material for students having trouble with these subjects.

Approach

I understand that science, in general, can be a very challenging subject to tackle especially if it is not something that a student finds interesting. With this in mind when I tutor I aim to be as relatable as possible. I also aim to leave no student behind. I am willing to sit with a student hour upon hour until they get it right. Lastly, I am really big on constant examples and critical thinking questions. They are my best tools in the toolkit when it comes to bringing my lessons home.

Biology I Tutoring

During my freshmen year of college, I took Honors Biology Part 1 and the Lab. I earned an A- in the class and an A in the lab. Biology 1 is where it all starts, it's where the foundation for the upper-level Biology courses is built. Biology 1 is actually my favorite type of Biology to teach because what is learned in this course has the potential to set a student up for excellence in all of their other Biology courses.

Chemistry I Tutoring

During my freshmen year of college, I took Chemistry Part 1 and Lab. I earned a B in the class and an A in the lab. Chemistry can be very challenging. It is organized Biology according to the rules of Math and Physics. There are so many things to remember and so many ways to get the correct answer. Chemistry 1 for me was fun because I really enjoyed figuring out the pieces to Chemistry puzzles and I enjoyed helping others understand how to do the same.

Biology Tutoring

I took high school Biology during my freshmen year. I earned a B in the class and started to build a desire to study science. Since then I have traveled across the U.S. researching and studying the subject matter. My Biology major in college has only furthered my knowledge in this area but there is always something new and different to learn in Biology. I plan on continuing to grow in this field.

Chemistry Tutoring

I took high school Chemistry during my sophomore year. I earned an A in the class and got over my fear of taking this course. Chemistry is one of the subjects that instills fear in students because at first glance it looks extremely challenging but it is only one of those courses that teach students the importance of studying and repetitive example questions. My foundation in high school chemistry prepared me well for my college chemistry classes.

Homework Coach Tutoring

I graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA and a full ride scholarship. During my time in high school, I made sure to keep a strict study and homework schedule. I made sure I was organized and planned out when everything was due as well as when I was going to work on everything. Lastly, I never stopped when I was tired only when I finished.

Study Skills Tutoring

I graduated high school with a 3.8 GPA and a full ride scholarship. During my time in high school, I made sure to keep extensive and creative notes. Anyone can copy directly from the book or the teacher but going above and beyond to have your own notes, notes the teacher gave, and creative notes that keep you engaged have a major impact on your study skills and grades. I also make it a habit to actively search for new ways to study. I will never stop learning.
