Fun Facts

I am a HUGE astronomy nerd - I have endless "fun facts". I am from Texas, was a cheerleader for eight years, and I have a very cute Pomeranian puppy. I love any type of sweets, traveling (I am going to Italy this summer!), concerts, and volunteering.

About Me

I am a Junior Astrophysics major with a Math secondary major at Baylor University. I am the Vice President of the Society of Physics Students at Baylor. After graduation, I plan on getting my PHD in astrophysics. My goal is to be a project manager for a Mars mission at NASA or at a private space company. I would also like to become a physics professor at a college and do research on Neutron Stars.

Experience

At Baylor, I am a member of W-Psi, which is a group of physics majors who go to the local high schools and help teach physics once a week. Usually, we'll prepare a lesson plan, teach the class, and assist with problem sets. Since starting college, I've been the "go-to" person when any of my friends need help in physics or math (which is often). In high school, It was my responsibility to tutor my fellow team mates in science and math.

Approach

Being involved in STEM is no easy feat. I understand a lot of these topics are difficult, which is why its so important to have the very basic concept understood before anything else. The best test to see if you understand something, if if you can explain it to a child and they get it. First, I help students grasp the foundations of the problems. Then, we work though some problems together without giving the student the answer until the end. Have the student ask questions, practice, repeat.

Astronomy Tutoring

I've taken topics in astronomy (calculus based - for astronomy majors only) with an A. Next semester I will take Stellar structure and Observational astronomy. I have a great understanding of astronomy, so I helped tutor my classmates as well as students in the regular astronomy course. Right now, I am doing research on White Dwarfs with a professor so I have personal experience with astronomy. My degree major (astrophysics) IS astronomy, just with much more physics integrated into the classes.

Calculus I Tutoring

I've taken AP Calculus 1 (high school), as well as calculus 1,2, and 3 all with A's or B's. Calculus 1 I made an A, and I use the math every single day so it's always fresh on my mind. I am getting a secondary major in math, so calculus is a vital part of that. I tutor several business and pre-med students in Cal 1.

Calculus 2 Tutoring

I've taken Calculus 2 and made an A. Cal 2 is very difficult for a lot of people, and it comes pretty naturally to me, so I tutored my classmates as well as lower level physics majors in this class several times. I am getting a secondary major in math so understanding calculus 2 is very important.

College Algebra Tutoring

Algebra is the very basis for how I do all physics and math. I have been using algebra since 6th grade, so I understand all the concepts very well and am able to explain them simply. I've also been teaching others algebra concepts for about 7 years now. With a degree in astrophysics and math, you MUST know algebra like the back of your hand. Thankfully, I do.

Math Tutoring

I've completed math classes in Calculus 1, 2, and 3, Linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, as well as math and computational physics. Next semester I will take Partial differential equations and foundations in mathematics. I am attaining a secondary major in math so I must understand all these topics and of course make a satisfactory grade or else it won't count towards my degree. I've been tutoring people in math since I was in middle school, and I love learning new math.

Physics I Tutoring

I've taken honors physics 1 which is required of all astrophysics students. It gave me a great knowledge of the basic ideas of physics. I tutor just about all of my friends who have to take physics 1 (whom all are not physics majors). I've also taken physics 1, modern physics, and math and computational physics which all build upon and strengthen my understanding of physics 1 which I must have for my astrophysics major.

Physics II Tutoring

I took physics 2 as well as a theoretical and experimental lab for the class with an A. The labs gave me a strong comprehension in the subject. I am an astrophysics major, so this is necessary.

Pre Calculus Tutoring

I've taken precal, as well as calculus 1,2 and 3, so knowing precal is the basis for each of these classes. I tutor several business majors who have to take precal (this is the only. math class they have to take, so its quite a shock to most and tend to be very lost), which is very fun in my opinion. I am getting a secondary major in math, so a strong understanding of precal is necessary.

Trigonometry Tutoring

I took trigonometry in high school with an A+. I took this a year in advance, so I tutored many people in my class when they took the class next year. I've also taken algebra 1 and 2, precal, calculus 1,2 and 3, and linear algebra which all use trig. I am getting a secondary math major, and trigonometry is in all of my classes so I have attained a great understanding of the material.

Algebra Tutoring

I've taken Algebra 1 and 2 with an A+.

Algebra II Tutoring

I've taken Algebra 1 and 2 with an A+. I've also taken calculus 1,2, and 3 which all require a good understanding of algebra. I have been using algebra since 6th grade, so I understand all the concepts very well and am able to explain them simply. I've also been teaching others algebra concepts for about 7 years now. I am getting a secondary degree in math, so I MUST know algebra like the back of my hand.

AP Physics Tutoring

I took AP physics in high school and did well on the AP test. I've also taken college physics 1 and 2, and modern physics. In high school I tutored the on-level physics students and was a physics teacher's aid. I am getting my bachelors degree in astrophysics, so I have gained a great deal of experience with the subject.

Calculus Tutoring

I've taken AP Calculus 1 (high school), as well as calculus 1,2, and 3 all with A's or B's. Calculus 1 I made an A, and I use the math every single day so it's always fresh on my mind. I am getting a secondary major in math, so calculus is a vital part of that. I tutor several business and pre-med students in Cal 1.

Calculus AP Tutoring

I've taken AP Calculus BC 1 (high school), as well as calculus 1,2, and 3 all with A's or B's. Calculus 1 I made an A, and I use the math every single day so it's always fresh on my mind. I am getting a secondary major in math, so calculus is a vital part of that. I tutor several business and pre-med students in Cal 1.
