Fun Facts

Although I live in Waco now, I grew up in Atlanta, GA, and I went to college near Chattanooga, TN, where I still have a lot of close friends, so it’s like I have three different hometowns. As I was growing up, I spent a lot of time outside with family and friends, doing things like rock climbing, canoeing, and hiking throughout Georgia and the southeast Appalachian mountains. I love reading, especially science fiction and poetry, and when it’s nice weather I can often be found reading outside.

About Me

I am a PhD student in Baylor University’s English Department. After I graduate with my PhD, my goal is to work as a professor, teaching and studying English literature. Currently, I work as an instructor in Baylor’s English Department, where I teach writing classes and British literature. I enjoy helping students, both as a teacher and as a tutor. I really like working with others and I have strong communication skills, so I look forward to helping students succeed with their work!

Experience

As a college student, I first discovered that I loved helping other students learn when I began working in my college’s Writing Center. During my time in grad school, I have also gained extensive experience helping students write for classes like composition, literature, history, music, medical humanities, religion, and philosophy, among others. I also have worked in volunteer tutoring programs, including both an after-school program for elementary school students, and an adult ESL program.

Approach

In my experience teaching and tutoring writing, the most helpful tutoring is individualized and tailored to each student’s needs and personality, so I always start out tutoring sessions by getting to know the student, and then discussing what the student hopes to accomplish during the session. As I work with repeat students over time, I work to build a good rapport with them. My goal as a tutor is to give students the study skills they need to succeed in all classes, now and in the future.
