Fun Facts
My absolute favorite thing to do in this life is travel and experience new cultures. Having lived in 3 different countries and traveled to 37 different nations has allowed me to learn from and exchange ideas with many different peoples in the world. My experiences have exposed me to different ways of thinking and has in turn helped me become a better teacher and mentor. I look forward to expanding my learning and passing on my experiences with others.
About Me
I have achieved a B.A. from Kalamazoo College with majors in biology and chemistry and an M.A. in physical chemistry from Johns Hopkins University.Currently I am a tutor to high school and college level students in Chemistry, Biology and Math as well as a Science Journal Editor for research Chemists.I have worked in the Flavor Industry as an analytical chemist and in the automotive industry as a Sr. Noise Vibration Engineer.I have also held a post as an Adjunct Professor at a community college.
Experience
Throughout my academic and professional careers I have always enjoyed the art of teaching and mentoring students so as to unleash their natural curiosity to counter the challenging problems they face.I have had the pleasure in this role throughout my academic career as teaching assistant, Adjunct Professor in Chemistry, and the hundreds of students I have helped the last few years as a tutor.With 12 years experience in the chemical and automotive industries I can provide real world applications.
Approach
My approach to tutoring is holistic and I try to get to know the students well and assess where they are in their critical thinking. I begin to learn where their weaknesses and strengths are and then help them by setting realistic goals and not just solving conceptual problems. Some students understand the material well but need more time than is allotted during exams and therefore I work with them on speed and accuracy, while others may need help understanding just the concepts.
