Fun Facts
I have two cats who are my fuzzy children named Preston and Wesley. I love all kinds of animals, movies, music styles, and I love reading. I spend some of my free time working on embroidery projects that sometimes take up to a year to finish!
About Me
I am currently living in Vancouver, WA and working as a substitute teacher. I have recently started exploring the idea of going back to school to get another Masters Degree in Library Sciences.
Experience
I have 15 years of classroom teaching experience. For the first 9 years, I taught in combination classrooms of fifth and sixth grades. I taught a year of preschool and Kindergarten before moving to Idaho to teach in a one-room school where I taught all grades 1-8. That was a fun challenge to move between teaching a first grader how to add, working with a third grader on story problems, and jumping to help a seventh grader on geometry skills! I love helping kids gain confidence and learn!
Approach
When I was in elementary school I excelled at reading and was usually placed in the grade level ahead for that class. I struggled with math how there only ever seemed to be one way I was told how to do the problems. While going through my college classes I learned very quickly that one of my assets was being able to explain concepts to students in multiple ways until I was finally able to help each student understand. My job to adapt for each student and to their needs.
