Fun Facts

Aside from my academics, what takes up most of my time during the school year is my commitment as a member of the varsity NYU track and field team. I compete in the triple and long jump, and the dedication and persistence that is required to succeed in the sport have definitely helped me in the classroom. In my free time, I'm almost always listening to music. I've been a huge music nerd ever since I was a kid, and I hope to one day try my hand in music journalism.

About Me

I am a rising junior at New York University originally from New Hampshire. I'm currently pursuing a double major in neural science and psychology, with a minor in print journalism. I maintain a GPA of 3.9 and am a College of Arts and Sciences Presidential Honors Scholar. While my post-graduate plans are still developing, I'm leaning towards pursuing a career in research or science journalism. Hopefully, I can stay here in NYC after my time at NYU to complete my graduate education!

Experience

Throughout my last year of high school, I participated in an after-school program that paired upperclassmen with student peers that wanted some extra help in their classes. Tutoring other kids in my school turned out to be a fulfilling experience, not only due to seeing my peers begin to succeed in classes they previously struggled in, but also because it taught me how to be a better communicator.

Approach

It took me a long time to figure out school. I just didn't understand what I had to do to succeed academically, and unfortunately, there really was no one there to guide me as I slowly put the pieces together myself. I fully understand how it's hard to give your all to something that never seems to go your way, and as a tutor I try to be a guide for students that just haven't yet found their personal path to academic success.

Chemistry II Tutoring

The core sciences are an important part of the basis for neuroscience education, and as such I have taken an intensive year of general chemistry at NYU. I received an A in both Gen Chem 1 and 2 and took part in learning groups that facilitate peer tutoring between students.

Elementary Statistics Tutoring

Because statistics is such an integral part of psychology, I work with the subject all the time. I received an A in advanced psychological statistics and helped lead study groups for the semester's exams.

Spanish II Tutoring

I have taken Spanish for seven years and received an A in all of the advanced grammar/writing Spanish classes I've taken at NYU. I was intending on pursuing a minor, however, I switched to journalism as I feel I have a good hold on the language already.

Writing Advance Tutoring

Although I'm a science major, I have a passion for writing and expressing my ideas in novel ways. I have received an A in all writing/essay based classes I've taken thus far, and one of my essays submitted in an expository writing course was nominated for publication in the annual collection of NYU's best undergraduate pieces. I regularly peer edit other students' essays, and really enjoy working with others to improve their writing.

Study Skills Tutoring

Balancing my athletics with a work-intensive double science major has proved to be a challenging but doable task, and I feel like through this process I have learned valuable lessons and study tips. The peer tutoring I did in high school also gave me opportunities to work with younger kids and help them become better students as a whole, instead of simply in one specific subject.
