Fun Facts
I am passionate about learning a new hobby every year! So far this includes, painting, pottery, make up artistry, marathon running, and hopefully, this year, something musical like the ukulele! I am one of 6 children all of whom became engineers, except me, the elementary teacher! I recently moved to St. Louis from Boston, MA where I've lived my whole life and we adopted a big, funny dog, named Buddy!
About Me
I have an undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Masters in Elementary Education. I've been a teacher for 8 years and loved connecting with my students and developing long lasting relationships with each one. I have recently begun my own organizing business, as well, which has been challenging and exciting!
Experience
As a general education teacher with inclusion, I've been lucky to teach a wide range of abilities every year which has shown me the importance of 1:1 and small group teaching for some students. Right away I began tutoring students after school from learning to read to 5th grade math and writing and have seen such huge progress with every student. I'm ESL certified and am working towards a reading specialist degree to further enhance my knowledge and training.
Approach
As noted above, growing up the 4th child of 6 who all followed in my fathers footsteps to become an engineer, I always felt like I wasn't as smart. As I grew up I learned that I was also able to learn in a variety of ways thus aware of how to break things down differently for other learning styles. I'm organized, have strong time management skills, and pride myself on being able to connect with kids, build their confidence, and show them they are capable of anything as long as they practice!

ESL Tutoring
Most of my teaching experience has been in a diverse community in a public school setting. There I was able to gain experience teaching students whose first language was Spanish or Portuguese. I was determined to make them feel comfortable and learn at their own highest level, so I became certified in ESL to better connect, communicate, and teach these students.
Homework Coach Tutoring
Homework and study skills are learned at a very young age. If students are disorganized, struggle with keeping on task, or don't know how to prioritize their work, their learning suffers. That is why I've held a homework club for the past 5 years. I helped students with their time management as well as bridge the gap between what they're learning in school and what they need to accomplish on their own at home.

In my experience, math can be a draining subject matter for many students. That is why I have learned how to engage students with a variety of teaching tools. Some students learn math better with the use of manipulatives, others with real life problem solving approach, or computer based. I can help students find their own unique teaching style and adapt lessons accordingly.
