Fun Facts

Fun fact about me: I love to sing. I’m a huge musical theater buff and I performed in them all through high school. I still take voice lessons in college! I also love to dance. Next year I’m hoping to pick up a few ballet classes–I danced for six years before giving it up! A few other things: I love to travel, I have two adorable dogs, and my favorite color is pink.

About Me

I’m a rising junior Spanish and Comparative Literature double Major at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. I’m also pursuing a Concentration in Translation Studies. When I graduate in 2021, my plan is to take some time to travel before starting graduate school to earn my Masters in Translation and Interpretation. My dream is to become a translator and interpreter.

Experience

As a Spanish and Portuguese Department Student Liaison, I’ve had the opportunity to act as a go-between for students majoring in Spanish and Portuguese and faculty. This has opened up several tutoring opportunities, including a chance to tutor an ESL graduate student as an informal conversation partner. I’ve tutored since high school, primarily in French, Spanish, English, and writing. I take any chance I can to make language learning a little more fun or easier for those struggling.

Approach

Although language learning and writing have always come easily to me, I’ve witnessed in classes those who struggle or seem disinterested. I get it–grammar isn’t for everyone! Which is why my tutoring approach is tailored to each individual student. I believe that making the student feel capable and empowered is half the battle. I want the student to leave each session feeling good about the work he or she has put in and remember that sense of satisfaction in all areas of their life.
