Fun Facts

Something that people quickly learn about me is that I really love my fluffy, little dog, Toby, that I rescued while teaching English in South Korea. Toby also lived in Vietnam with me while I was teaching there, and has proven to be a great travel buddy. Believe it or not, he actually responds to commands in three languages: Korean, Spanish, and English!

About Me

I was born and raised in Kodiak, Alaska and have lived and volunteered throughout the United States, Latin America, and Asia. I love to explore different cultures, learn new languages, try exotic foods, and make connections with people from around the world. I recently graduated from DePaul University with a M.Ed. in Bilingual Bicultural Education, a teaching license in Elementary and Middle School Education, and endorsements in: Spanish, ESL, Bilingual Education, and Social Studies. I earned a Dean's Award during my first year of graduate school, have maintained a 3.9 GPA throughout my three and a half year graduate program, and have been a graduate research assistant to my professors for the past two years.

I have been chicago">tutoring children, adolescents, and adults in one-on-one and small group settings since I graduated from college in 2007. I received my CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) in 2009 from the University of Cambridge, and spent one year teaching ESL classes in Argentina, and a subsequent year teaching in South Korea and Vietnam. I teach at forest">Lake Forest Academy during the summers and have otherwise continued to regularly chicago">tutor in Chicago. Now that I am in graduate school, I have found chicago">tutoring to be a great opportunity for me to continue building upon my teaching skills!

I thoroughly enjoy chicago">tutoring students who are struggling academically because, together, we can work to identify their strengths, interests, and weaknesses, and use this knowledge to construct avenues that will lead to their future success. I have learned that it is essential for family members, teachers, chicago">tutors, and students to consistently work as a team in order to most effectively support a student's personal and academic growth. This type of wraparound effort aids in building student confidence, willingness to work hard, and ability to realize their own potential.
