Fun Facts

I am a fan of Hockey, even though I am horrible at ice skating, I still love to go watch live games. I am the youngest of 3 and was the first to attend college in my family. I love to sing and dance, and loved taking dance classes in college for fun! Ballroom dancing was my favorite to learn.

About Me

I graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in Elementary Education and I was on the Dean's list all four years. I taught 6th grade for four years in Arizona. I taught 4th grade for two years in Texas and 1st grade for two years in Virginia. I eventually want to study curriculum and instruction.

Experience

I taught 6th grade for the last four years. My first three years I taught math (intervention - 5th grade, regular - 6th grade, and advanced - 7th grade) in 6th grade. I taught one year of all the subjects in 6th grade and worked at an accelerated school, where we taught a year to two years ahead of grade level. I have also taught in Texas and Virginia, 4th grade for two years as well as 1st grade for two years. I have tutored privately and at my schools after school program.

Approach

As a tutor, I like to challenge students have them think through the problem as I guide them to the answer. I use the method of I do, we do, you do. That way the child is exposed to the type of problem, we attempt to solve another one together, and then the student will attempt one on their own. It is my responsibility to teach the content, but for the student to be held accountable and develop the skills to perform the problem on their own and be successful!
