Fun Facts
I grew up in sunny California, halfway between Disneyland and the Pacific Ocean, so I admit it was fun-filled. It’s where I learned to surf in the summer and ski in the winter. But my greatest passion is traveling and learning from people in other cultures. As a full-time educator, I have taught English in Egypt and within the Native American community in the US. Summer vacations took me to Mexico, Spain, Ecuador, England, and France but we hope to discover Asia in the future!
About Me
I am a teacher who loves helping my students reach their educational goals. I teach ESL at a local community college. I use pre-tests to identify which topics the student needs and practice tests to monitor progress. ESL classes can be tailored to focus on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar or reading.
Experience
I have 5 years' experience teaching social studies, science, math, and language arts to adults seeking to pass their GED. I have helped numerous students study for their nursing school entrance exams. Currently, I am an ESL instructor at a local community college here in New Mexico. I spend extra time helping my students with vocabulary and pronunciation. As an online tutor, I teach English to students from all over the world who need help with accent reduction, vocabulary, and reading.
Approach
Each student is unique and comes to the table with different strengths, weaknesses, and goals. I like to build on the student’s strengths and help them remain confident and flexible in their ability to learn new things. But I also make sure my students are enjoying themselves in class so my lessons are created from topics that are interesting to the them. I use pre-tests to discover the student's area of need and practice-tests to monitor progress in those areas.
