Fun Facts
I love painting, and have found myself experimenting a lot lately. I've taken to thrifting jackets and pants and painting on my clothes. I also love drawing and painting portraits. I also go to school in New York for drama! When applying, I wanted to focus in acting. After my first year, I realized I'd rather give instruction to others, and I changed my focus to directing. I've never looked forward to my future more.
About Me
I'm currently majoring in drama with a focus in directing at Hofstra University and will be graduating in 2022. I'm also an Honors College student and am the Vice President of the Hofstra English society. When I graduate, I hope to work in theaters in New York, or come back to Houston and contribute to the arts at home.
Experience
When I was a sophomore in high school, I took on private tutoring and had one elementary student for three years. I am currently tutoring a pre-kinder student, and look forward to helping more kids do well in school when I go back to university.
Approach
When I was a kid, I was put in the "gifted and talented" accelerated courses in school. I learned to read at a young age and was well ahead of my class. As a result, I didn't feel the need to study. I did the homework and excelled in school, and learned much later that developing solid studying and disciplinary skills are extremely important. When I tutor, I encourage effort and try to develop persistence in my students. I also try to help them find activities and tactics that help them study.

Algebra Tutoring
Algebra was one of my favorite courses in high school, and I understood all concepts taught to me. I understand how to break them down into basic components and help others understand how to use formulas and methods. Algebra is easy to me, but I understand that others struggle with math, and I have patience and can help with step by step solutions.
Algebra II Tutoring
Algebra II was a course I enjoyed, and I used the principles I learned in that class and applied them to concepts of pre-calculus. Understanding logarithms can be difficult but I am competent and understand the functions and uses of them, as well as other functions that are introduced in Algebra II.
AP English Tutoring
I took AP English and can help with reading comprehension, finding symbolism in texts, and looking at texts within the contexts they were created in. All of these things are incredibly important in understanding texts often examined in English courses, and they are skills I've used extensively in all of my college courses thus far. I am also competent in writing and grammar help. I often find myself editing works of my friends and peers, as Vice President of the Hofstra English Society.
Arts Tutoring
I took AP Art in my senior year and used the elements of composition in my portfolio. I used mainly watercolors in my high school portraits, but recently I've found myself both experimenting with acrylics and going back to the basics in drawing with graphite. I also have interests in art history, and find that looking at the contexts that art has been made in often adds interest to many pieces of art, if not all of them.
Middle School Math Tutoring
When I was in middle school, I was in pre-Algebra and Algebra 1, and thoroughly enjoyed and succeeded in both. I understood all concepts taught to me and picked them up quickly. I understand how to relay these concepts to a student in a simple and easy to understand way.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I tutored a young boy while I was in high school for three consecutive years. I began when he was in first grade and graduated when he finished third grade. I helped him understand the concepts he was being taught and retain the information needed to solve problems. I was always advanced in math courses and excelled in algebra and pre-calculus. In my senior year I took AP Statistics, and still enjoy math.
