Fun Facts
I love college! I've had so many great opportunities based on the organizations I joined. I am fortunate to be a university ambassador (aka tour guide), a mentor to an elementary student through College Mentors for Kids, an active member in a co-ed professional engineering fraternity, and also get to volunteer at an after school program, as well. In high school, all I really participated in was sports- and these years at college allowed me to find all new passions.
About Me
I am a senior in chemical engineering and paper science and engineering at NC State. I have had the chance to do 4 different internships in my field. My most previous internship was a technical sales position where I learned many different methods to communicate water chemistry.
Experience
I tutor with the NC State TRIO program, through the NC State chemistry department, and privately. I also am a teaching assistant for chemistry 101 lab at NC State. I have learned many different ways to communicate chemistry in order to help a student understand conceptually. I have also developed a productive and effective way to prepare for chemistry tests.
Approach
I think it's very important to recognize each person thinks differently. Chemistry can be tough as teachers and books often teach in similar fashions and terms, making it difficult to reach all of the varied minds. Being a teaching assistant and tutor has allowed me to speak with many different students one on one and learn what type of visuals, explanations, comparisons, etc. work. My goal each session is to take out the frustration and replace it with confidence and understanding.

Chemical Engineering
Chemistry I Tutoring
I took AP chemistry in high school and received a 4. However, I retook chemistry 1 in college and received an A+. I teach the labs that align with CH101 so I have taught the material through that medium. I also tutor CH101 students. My first student was in CH101 and was worried about failing. Meeting twice a week she was able to improve her grade as the material became harder and passed with a C+.
Chemistry II Tutoring
I took AP chemistry in which i received a 4. I then began tutoring this subject and have tutored 3 students semester long and many students through drop in tutoring in CH201. This class is a lot about taking a scenario and knowing how to quickly figure out a numerical solution. My goal is to help understand why we choose certain equations and how to effectively solve the problems.
Chemistry Tutoring
I took general chemistry and AP chemistry in high school. I received a 4 on the AP test but also have been tutoring in AP material for the past year. Chemistry can be tough to understand. One day it all makes sense and within a week it can seem like a foreign language. My goal is to help understand lessons and prepare for tests.
AP Chemistry Tutoring
I took AP chemistry in high school and received a 4 on the AP test. I have been tutoring in AP material for the past year. AP chemistry is taught at NC State at CH101 and CH201 along with labs. I am a teaching assistant for the CH101 labs and tutor in both CH101 and CH201. I have learned so many different ways to teach the subject depending on the student learning.
