Fun Facts

I adore musicals! I know every word to multiple Broadway shows and will sing them, incredibly off-key, at the drop of a hat. I have seen a few touring companies over the last few years, but my dream is to visit NYC and see a show on the real Broadway!

About Me

I am a senior at Portland State University. I am currently planning on graduating Summa Cum Laude (fingers crossed I maintain my 3.9 gpa these last two terms!) with a Bachelor's of Science in English. After graduation, I will be attending Portland State University's graduate college where I will be pursuing a master's in secondary education. After that, I hope to have a career teaching middle and high school Language Arts/English.

Experience

My passion for working with kids has lead to many amazing opportunities throughout the years! Through a high school club, I was able to teach monthly sciences classes in my local elementary school. I still maintain a close relationship with the club and have been invited back as a guest educator on multiple occasions. I also spent the summer of 2016 as the summer mentor of a youth group, and most recently, I was able to spend three months student teaching at Northwest Academy in Portland, Or.

Approach

Last year, I took a class called Teaching and Tutoring Writing. In the class, we focused on the method of teaching writing as a process. When you teach writing as a process, there is no such thing as a bad paper, it is simply an early draft that will be improved upon as more skill is acquired. I try to translate this method to all areas that I teach because all learning is a process.
