Fun Facts
After being a very uncoordinated child, I am happy to say that I have finally found my sport: yoga! I am super passionate about practicing and teaching yoga and meditation. I love to read (fiction, mostly!), listen to music (I am an avid playlist creator), and cook (my specialty is pulled pork and cole slaw, and any type of dessert).
About Me
I am a first-year graduate student in the creative writing program at Portland State University. I graduated with honors from University of California Davis with a Bachelors degree in English. I worked for 8 years in tech marketing in San Francisco until recently when I decided to go back to school to pursue my dream of becoming a published author and writing professor.
Experience
In college, I worked as a peer writing tutor in the University learning center. I helped students with all aspects of paper writing -- brainstorming, outlining, writing, editing, finding textual evidence, bibliographies -- in a wide range of subjects. After college, I taught ESL to Iraqi refugees in one-on-one and group sessions, with a specific focus on job attainment and readiness. I love teaching and tutoring, and am excited to do more of it with Frog Tutoring!
Approach
My approach is to facilitate a dynamic discussion and allow students to learn by doing. I ask students questions that encourage them to formulate their own thoughts and opinions. I feel successful when I see my students make compelling arguments in their own voices. The confidence built during the guided critical thinking process is a skill transferrable to all subjects.
