Fun Facts

I love French even though I'm not the best at speaking it. I actually attended the Air Force Academy for one year after high school. I was very involved in high school from student council president to varsity golf team. I like to think of myself as a nerd because I love school and learning and hope to help others understand why school is so important.

About Me

My name is Richard Hackney. I am 20 years old. I was born to military parents and have lived most of my life in San Antonio, however I was born in Panama City, Panama. I graduated from Warren high school with a 94 GPA coming from a freshman with a 73 average. I learned early that you don't get what you want in life with out hard work and self motivation. I had a few encouraging people in my life who helped see my true potential. After high school I went on to the Air Force Academy where I completed a few basics while going through Basic Military training. I am currently at Northwest Vista college planning to transfer to U.T.S.A. or U.T. in the fall to persue a Masters in Professional Accounting.

Experience

I am a tutor for a program called A.V.I.D. at Earl Warren High School currently. I tutor in most high school subjects including SAT and ACT prep as well as AP tests. I have helped students who also have trouble passing state mandated tests.

Approach

My approach varies depending on the student, however I like to find out how they learn best and teach them in a way that they can understand. I also like to have students try to learn how to find answers themselves through the utilization of resources at home or at school when I am not there. This way students will be better prepared when moving to a new level of education. I will be able to teach students how to take effective notes quickly by proficient use of the Cornell system.
