Fun Facts

Apart from being a science and math fanatic, I am obsessed with the outdoors! The Pacific Northwest is a wonderful playground, and I like to take advantage of the bountiful natural beauty by camping, kayaking and shooting archery whenever I can. I hope to plan a long kayaking trip for next year with my brother along the John Day River in Central Oregon, but it's going to take a lot of preparation - I can hardly wait!

About Me

I am a chemist and currently working as a laboratory technician for the Geology Department at Portland State University, and this position has allowed me to explore new areas of science that I hadn't before considered, particularly environmental science. I have subsequently fallen in love with hydrology and water science in general, so I am pursuing a Masters degree in Engineering this year so that I can work as a hydrologist conserving groundwater resources.

Experience

I have been tutoring science and math since 2007, providing assistance to high school and college students primarily. At a given time, I regularly tutor between 5 to 8 students weekly, and I've even been lucky enough to tutor whole families of students as they move through their high school careers! I have worked as a tutor both independently and for established tutoring companies, including TSC Academics in Santa Cruz, CA, and Huntington Learning Center in Bethany, OR.

Approach

Though science and math are passions of mine, I do understand the intrinsic struggle these subjects present for many students; I know that classes often proceed too rapidly to firmly grasp many of the key concepts. I try to enable students to work with confidence and independence; this includes guiding students toward resources, developing structured problem-solving strategies, and honing critical thinking skills.
