Fun Facts
I grew up in New Hampshire, but moved to Oregon about three years ago. I first fell in love with the Pacific Northwest while working in a shipyard in Bellingham, Washington about five years ago. In my free time, I really enjoy camping, hiking, skiing, and hanging out with my dog Maddie. When time and finances permit, I also love to travel. The last trip I went on was to Thailand for winter break. I spent most of my time in Thailand scuba diving and exploring the islands.
About Me
I am going into my senior year at Portland State University where I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I recently got into an accelerated Master's Degree program which will allow me to take all of my ME elective classes this year at the Master's level. Therefore, these elective classes will count toward my Master's and Bachelor's degrees and will allow me to complete my Master's Degree in just five years of starting university.
Experience
After high school I joined the US Coast Guard, where I worked as a ship mechanic and diver. At all three of the units where I was stationed, I was tasked with the responsibility of being a mentor to more junior personnel by my supervisors given my technical aptitude and leadership ability. That being said, teaching more junior personnel was a major part of my day-to-day work.
Approach
My approach to tutoring will primarily depend on what style of teaching the person I am helping is most receptive to. Given the fact that the person is seeking help in the first place inherently implies that the style in which they are being taught is not working. Therefore,in order to most effectively teach someone, I will discuss with them what approach will be most helpful.
