Fun Facts
Anyone who knows me well knows that I'm obsessed with animals. I've owned cats, fish, bunnies, a dog, a tortoise, and a red-eared slider turtle. Growing up, my next door neighbors were cows, horses, and a donkey. When I was 15, I kissed a dolphin and swam right next to a sea turtle!
About Me
I am a poet, teacher, and cat mom living in SE Portland. I'm currently taking a yoga teacher training to become a Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance certification. My ultimate dream is to publish a book of poetry and lead writing + yoga workshops around the country.
Experience
I have worked in education for over five years! While living in Chicago, I worked as a Learning Specialist in the education/oregon/portland">Special Education Department at Noble Street College Prep, a high-performing charter high school. During my last two years, I worked as the Dean of Specialized Services, directly overseeing the work of our Learning Specialists and teaching Reading and English classes for our diverse learners. Most recently, I was a Study Skills teacher at Jefferson.
Approach
My approach to tutoring is my approach to life: be patient and be positive. I truly believe that all students can learn with the right teaching. For my students, this means framing difficult concepts or questions as opportunities for growth, focusing on student strengths, and adjusting my instruction throughout class. Everyone learns differently, and my specialty is figuring out how.

Graduate CourseworkStudy Skills Tutoring
I taught a Study Skills class at Jefferson High School during the 2018-2019 school year. Previously, I also taught an Academic Lab for five years in Chicago. Additionally, I advised a group of high school girls for four years, and a big focus was on study skills.
Writing Tutoring
I co-taught writing classes at the high school level for five years. I have experience teaching all parts of the writing process, from brainstorming to drafting to editing to revising. I also write creatively for pleasure and participate in a weekly poetry workshop with my writer friends.
ESL Tutoring
I taught English to Tibetan monks in Dharamsala, India when I was in college. My students ranged from 10 to 40 years old. Additionally, I currently teach English online to students in China.
Homework Coach Tutoring
I taught a Study Skills class at Jefferson High School during the 2018-2019 school year. Previously, I also taught an Academic Lab for five years in Chicago. Both of these courses focused on homework coaching.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I co-taught Reading at the high school level for five years. I have worked with students within a range of reading levels, from 1st grade reading levels all the way to college-level.

I co-taught English classes at the high school level for five years. Because I was at a college prep school, my lessons were always aligned to ACT and SAT standards. In addition to my grammar knowledge, I also have a lot of tips and tricks for remembering grammar rules!
