Fun Facts

While my study focus is in mathematics, my true love is music! I have played different instruments through my life and have played guitar and bass in different rock bands in the Boston, Connecticut and New York area. They may seem vastly different, but I feel that the logic behind math is inherently the same as music, especially music theory.

About Me

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Umass Amherst and have been a working musician for the past few years. I am now attending Southern Connecticut University and in the process of getting my teaching certificate. I will hopefully be teaching high school math full time in a year and half after getting my degree.

Experience

I have been tutoring local high school students in Geometry, Calculus and Algebra II for the past year. Also as a guitar and bass teacher for the past few years, I have been able to experience first hand the teaching methods that work best for me and my students.

Approach

Wether in music or math, I have found that an understanding of the fundamentals is much more important than memorization. Whether it be scales or mathematical formulas, I have found that if you fully understand why these are in place, the rest comes easy. I feel that students have the hardest time when they are just expected to memorize without given the time to grasp the reason they are learning any specific area. Test scores always go up once my students grasp the fundamentals.
