Fun Facts

I am a native New Yorker who enjoys traveling to new and exciting places. I have been a scuba diver for almost ten years and enjoy playing other sports such as softball. I am a proud product of the New York City public education system, and I am graduating from Lehman College in the Spring of 2012 summa cum-laude with dual degrees in Political Science and Art History. The focus of my undergraduate studies has been educational policies and particularly, the significance and the ever-changing role

About Me

I enjoy writing, both for academic assignments as well as personal projects such as creative nonfiction, short stories, and art reviews. My writing has been published and I have won two awards from Lehman College's English Department. I think of writing as a never-ending process that allows individuals to express themselves fully, and I believe everyone has the potential to be a great writer if they have the confidence to try and the tools to succeed. I will start teaching pre-kindergarten in the fall and look forward to helping young learners develop an appreciation for storytelling that will blossom into a love of reading and writing.
I have been bronx">tutoring students in a variety of subjects since 2004. As a high school student, I was a volunteer peer bronx">tutor who helped my classmates study for U.S. and global history, government and English, preparing them for class tests and the New York State Regents exams. For the past two and a half years, I have tutored college students of all ages and levels of English proficiency. I have been certified by the College Reading and Learning Association as a level II bronx">tutor after completing training and workshops to address the needs of students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and English Language Learners. My bronx">tutoring speciality is writing, academic as well as personal, and I help students find their unique voice for projects ranging from term papers to poems.
My style of bronx">tutoring is based on the idea of "show, don't tell", in that I act as a facilitator, allowing the student to tap into his or her abilities through the benefits of personalized instruction. I keep harsh criticism at bay during my bronx">tutoring sessions, and motivate my students with positive feedback and praise. I believe that a bronx">tutor who gives students the answers will never allow their students to become independent learners, which is my priority. I work with my students by discussing their goals, concerns, and struggles, then reading out loud together so
