Fun Facts
One fun fact about me would be that I love to try different recipes. I recently bought both a Wok and a Slow cooker and have been cooking fajitas, soy chicken and peppers, and casseroles ever since!
About Me
My name is Leah Barlow and I am a first-year graduate student in georgetown-university">Georgetown University's English MA Program, I graduated from hampton-university">Hampton University with a GPA of 3.6 in 2013 with my BA in English Arts. While at Hampton, I received the President's Award, the English Departmental Award, a UNCF-Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, and the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute Scholarship. I also served as supervising washington-dc">tutor of our department's Writing Laboratory, and Miss Sigma Tau Delta of our English Honor Society.
My washington-dc">tutoring experience lies in the three year I spent as washington-dc">tutor in the Writing Center for my undergraduate university. During that time I worked with students in first-year English courses as well as those in advanced courses. Additionally, the Writing Center assisted students outside of the department who needed help with editing personal statements, scholarship application essays, resumes, etc.
As the oldest sister of two younger brothers, both in high school, I have learned how to practice both patience and positive reinforcement over the years I have spent helping to read their assignments, and, most recently, college and scholarship essays. The same characteristics that I know help them, are the ones that I bring to the students I help washington-dc">tutor. I strive to create an environment where students feel that their work can and will improve and that, as a washington-dc">tutor, I care about their ability to succeed.
