Fun Facts

I am lucky enough to be married to a musician, so our house is a very musical one! I love to sing and play the piano, recording songs every now and again. If the weather is nice, I enjoy planting and growing things in my garden. Last year, I grew corn and potatoes for the first time. In addition to my usual tomatoes, spinach and pepper favorites, this year I'm going to try to grow a pumpkin.

About Me

I am currently a 4th year medical student at Oregon Health & Science University. I am applying to psychiatry residencies the fall of 2014. I love children and am having my first child in the summer! I have a 10 year old pug and a 12 year old grumpy cat -- both of whom love to watch me cook in the kitchen.

As an undergrad, I volunteered as a SUN reading helper to 2nd - 3rd graders in schools around Multnomah County. As a child caregiver for many years (ages birth - 15), I helped many children with their homework. During undergrad, I also worked part-time for 7 years as a Children's Education Director at a local church. I was a psychology portland">tutor at Portland State.

When I began college, I had no idea how to study. I would like to help all of my students learn a bit more about how to study effectively. Also, as a medical student, I faced a hard battle during the beginning of my training with how to learn such dense material in a short amount of time. When I discovered what type of learned I was and what study habits worked for me, I excelled. I would love to help each student discover what type of learner they are and help them find methods that work for them. Hopefully, I can help them realize that learning can be fun and that school work doesn't have to be a burden. I am hopeful that I can instill a sense of confidence and accomplishment within them, with each homework session completed. Learning is a life-long exercise -- and it can be fun!
