DISCLAIMER: I must insist that I can only work during this coming summer (May to August 2014). I would mainly describe myself as a person with many hobbies. I love video games, comic books (especially superheroes), movies, science fiction and fantasy, and famous works of literature. I can talk for hours about any of these topics, as well as discussions of history and philosophy.
About Me
I am currently a junior georgetown-university">Georgetown University with a 3.6 GPA, with an major in English and minors in Government and History (both of which are mainly US focused). I am not 100% sure what I would like to do after college, but I have begun to consider a career as a college professor. I like helping people learn and the feeling of helping others learn about various things. I also think there can be a better way of helping students learn that can be more entertaining and engaging, so such a career helps me experiment.
Most of my washington-dc">tutoring experience has come from helping out various friends and family members with work and assignments. Outside of that, however, I also worked as homework help at a Boys and Girls Club in connecticut/hartford">Hartford Connecticut. This not only included helping inner city kids with their homework (mostly basic math and spelling), but also keeping them interested in their work in a chaotic environment. For example, when I helped out friends and family in those close environments, the process went smoothly and quickly.
Of course, my washington-dc">tutoring style will depend wholly on which subject I am chosen to teach. If I am selected to English or writing, I will most likely show the students various pieces of literature and ask them what works and what does not from a narrative standpoint, or even ask him or her what they personally like and dislike in the piece. Then, we will most likely have them write their own pieces and peer edit them in a workshop style fashion. If I teach history, I will try to make the subject interesting by presenting the bizarre characters and more interesting anecdotes of history, such as Andrew Jackson's many duels, and so on. Overall, my washington-dc">tutoring approach will be focused on keeping the student both interested and constantly active in order to have them actually and actively lear
