Fun Facts

Although I'm a Spanish major, my favorite language is music! I'm in a competing barbershop chorus and quartet and it has become my obsession. Some people have a problem with distracting themselves with Facebook, I have a problem always looking up more things about barbershop. I'm also a drumline instructor at my old high school and band camp is my favorite "vacation!"

About Me

I'm on my way to become a secondary education Spanish teacher at Eastern Michigan University. Math education is my minor. I am a junior in school with a GPA of 3.9. After college I want to TEACH. I have always loved leading groups in order to help them and give them opportunities to learn. I work really well with high school students, but as long as I'm helping someone as a teacher and a role model, I'm happy.

I have worked with the Student Advocacy Center in Ypsilanti in which I detroit">tutor students around my age through a program to earn high school credits. I have also been assigned to clients that need GED preparation or need help on classroom homework. For a semester I volunteered at New Covenant Church every Wednesday night to help students elementary through high school on their classwork. This experience was very rewarding for me. I have also tutored in high school to fulfill NHS hours.

I am a strong believer in repitition. I aid the students as much as possible to get to the correct answer by scaffolding, repetition, and memorization techniques. If a student need to memorize facts, I often come up with silly ways to remember things such as an E major key signature have four sharps for the four sticks that make up the letter "E", and A major has three sharps for the three sticks that make up an "A" (I literally just made that up). Especially in math, I like to see what types of problems a student struggles with and I give them extra practice by making up problems. I often go over carefully with them how to do the problem, then help them a little less in each problem until they can do them on their own. Clear direction and opportunity to learn themselves is key.
