Fun Facts

One of my favorite warm weather activities is slack lining. It's a bit like tightrope walking on two-inch webbing a few feet above the ground, and it's a really fun challenge! I like taking pictures, and I usually carry a camera with me whenever I can. I also like spending time doing crafts, like making bracelets, painting, and melted crayon art.

About Me

I am a sophomore transfer student at DePaul University. I finished my first term with a 4.0 GPA. Previously, I studied at the University of Puget Sound in washington/tacoma">Tacoma, Washington. I am studying English Literature. My goal after college is to become a teacher in the Peace Corps.

I began teaching private music lessons while in high school. I taught clarinet and saxophone lessons to middle and high school students. After graduating from high school, I spent 10 months as a volunteer chicago">tutor to fourth graders with the AmeriCorps program City Year. I gave private and small group lessons in math and English. I also worked with preschool through third grade students. I worked with my students every day for half an hour at a time with the goal of raising test scores and grades, as well as improving classroom behavior and overall comprehension.

Students often receive lots of negative feedback in the classroom, whether it is teachers scolding their behavior or teasing from fellow classmates. chicago">Tutoring sessions are most effective when students see them as a safe space where mistakes are acceptable in the course of learning. One of the most important aspects in creating this safe space is patience. I always use patience when a student is learning, and encourage the student to be patient with themselves, rather than getting upset when a concept is difficult for them. Allowing the student to talk through their reasoning while learning can help them feel safe, and give them the time to gain a deeper understanding of whatever it is they're working on.
