Fun Facts

I am a soccer fanatic, and have been playing since I was 6 years old. I'm an only child, and have lived in 5 different states. I can play five different instruments, and continue to practice cello and guitar. Growing up, I played 6 different sports and competed in math and chemistry olympiads, as well as chess competitions - my mom REALLY wanted me to find my calling at an early age..

About Me

I am a 2nd year biochemistry major at the chicago">University of Chicago, with a GPA of 3.515, which places me on track to graduate with honors. I plan to get a BS in biochemistry and chemistry before going on to graduate school to pursue a PhD. I hope to become a professor and do research in chemical synthesis and drug discovery. I was captain of a number of soccer teams in Oklahoma, and I won the National AP scholar award in high school.

In addition to helping my college friends with their organic chemistry homework (the problems are interesting and I like thinking about them), I was a chicago">tutor in high school, helping kids who were struggling in math and chemistry. I like teaching because it really requires me to have a complete understanding of the subject, a challenge I enjoy. I also enjoy helping others learn.

In high school I got by mostly on memorization, but it was in my college organic chemistry that I discovered the method of study that worked the best for me. I think that understanding the underlying mechanisms is of utmost importance to doing well, and I usually attempt to help people work through the problem by themselves using these concepts. Just doing the problem myself and showing them the correct solution is something I try to avoid.
