Fun Facts
I love to play the piano, and have played for 13 years both competitively and recreationally. I also love traveling and film/TV. I have been to Asia and around North America, but I hope to study abroad in Europe! I recently acquired a love for Bollywood, but I have always enjoyed a wide variety of films; my favorites include 3 Idiots, Hugo, Good Will Hunting, and the Social Network.
About Me
I am a freshman studying biomedical engineering with a pre-health emphasis at the University of Southern California. I plan to go to optometry school and hope to become an optometrist with a private practice. I was inspired to pursue a health care career after my grandmother passed away from cancer and my father suffered a particularly severe retina detachment. I am dedicated to practicing a thorough work ethic, since my father's injury was exacerbated by a careless and improper initial diagnosis.
I have tutored students throughout middle school and high school in the following subjects: math (algebra, geometry, pre-calculus), writing, and ESL. I was an ESL tucson">tutor during my summers in Vietnam. I would spend about 6 weeks with each of my students, tucson">tutoring them in grammar and oral presentation. One of my students was accepted into the top three high schools in Hanoi, beating out thousands of testers for one spot out of 35 in the most advanced English class in the city; another student was also accepted into a top high school in Hanoi. I would love to continue tucson">tutoring, which is why I wish to spend this summer coming back to this rewarding job.
My past students say my tucson">tutoring style is focused but low-pressure. They say that I was patient and genuinely eager to help them, as I would end every session asking if they had any other questions at all.
When I tucson">tutor students, my goal is to not only help them solve the problems before them, but to also help them understand why the concept itself is important and how it fits in with the rest of the topics that they cover in the course.
If the student has trouble with the act of studying itself, I have numerous study techniques that I can impart, especially now that I have finished a year of college. I know that everyone studies differently, so I make a point of asking my peers and older students what works for them, so I'm not just offering advice based on my own experience.
