Fun Facts

I've been a music and culture journalist for the last decade! I've interviewed numerous bands and solo artists during that time. Going to concerts is one of my favorite past times, but I also love rollerskating, hiking, and doing puzzles. Also, I have a strong love for animals and hope to one day have my own animal sanctuary.

About Me

I am currently a senior at Portland State University majoring in Communications with a minor in Sociology. I'm also a part of the Urban Honors College, the Communications Department Honors program, and a member of the Tau Sigma National Honors Society. I hope to go on to graduate school to get my Masters in Sociology or Journalism. Ideally, my goal is to continue with my career in Journalism while also being a professor in one of the aforementioned subjects at a community college.

Experience

I did one-on-one tutoring as an AP student in high school. In college, I received three ELSA leadership scholarships to mentor and tutor prospective writers and journalists as the Arts & Culture editor of PSU's Vanguard newspaper. I've also spent two terms as a teacher's assistant, where I aided students in writing and comprehension. Though my experience has mainly been with college students, I look forward to working with students of all ages!

Approach

At a young age, I began to understand how people have learning styles entirely different from mine. It's stuck with me throughout my life and remains at the forefront of all of my academic interactions. I don't believe there is only one way to learn—it's important to get to know your students and what works best for them as individuals. I will always try my hardest to tailor my teaching to what is most effective. All it takes is a little extra effort, but I've found that it is totally worth it!
