Fun Facts

I grew up in Alaska, playing outside--rain or shine. On long hikes with my parents, I would create stories in my head, and write them down when I got home. I'm passionate about storytelling in all its forms: writing, painting, videogames, television, movies... but probably MOST favorite things are dogs and baking (and eating the baked things I made, which almost always have chocolate chips in them).

About Me

I graduated a semester early from Lewis & Clark College with a Bachelors of Arts in Rhetoric and Media Studies, where I was on the Dean's List every semester. I also took many art and Spanish classes, and spent a semester abroad in Spain. In the long term, my dream is to become an editor.

Experience

In college, I worked for the Writing Center since my sophomore year. This position gave me the opportunity to help others develop into better writers and critical thinkers. I absolutely loved it; it was incredibly rewarding work, and it made me a better writer, as well. The only reason I'm sad I graduated a semester early is that I don't get to keep working there. In addition college students, I have experience working with elementary and middle school students, ages 6-14.

Approach

Tutoring and teaching is not just about helping kids to get good grades and score higher, it's about helping a person develop skills that will help them in all aspects of their life: academic, emotional, social, etc. In my teaching, I work to help students become lifelong learners. Rather than giving students answers, I focus on teaching them the skills to find those answers for themselves, skills that will help them be successful throughout their life.
