The most common concepts in BCABA revolve around the basic principles of behavior analysis: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment, extinction, generalization, discrimination, and behavior chaining. These are critical in understanding how behaviors are acquired, maintained, and modified.

However, some of the most challenging concepts often involve more advanced topics like designing and interpreting functional behavior assessments (FBAs), understanding complex behavior change systems such as token economies or contingency contracting, and mastering ethical considerations outlined by the BACB's Ethical Code.

Training and tutoring in BCABA requires a detailed understanding of these principles and the ability to apply them to real-world scenarios. The cultivation of strong foundational knowledge paired with hands-on experience is key to becoming competent in the behavioral analytic field and to overcoming learning challenges associated with becoming a proficient BCABA.
