Fun Facts

I enjoy family and reading. I also have two dogs including a Great Dane puppy. Oh my! Two cats are also found in my home.
I love working with children. I believe all children can learn and achieve their best goals. Each child is uniquely him or her. I,as a teacher of over 35 years, believe it is my responsibility to find the way to encourage and empower the child.
I have taught the deaf for over 35 years. I love sign language. It works with gearing kiddos too.

About Me

I am a retired teacher as of May. I have my Masters in Counseling. My undergraduate degrees were in deaf education, education/tennessee/memphis">special education and elementary education.
I have tutored in the past children through adults.
I have also worked as a parent advisor for early intervention (0-3 years old)
My belief is that it is my job as the tutor is to find ways that fit the individual learner. I use lots of techniques. I also firmly believe it has to be applicable to the learner and something to look forward to doing.
Looking forward to working and learning together!

Experience

I just retired from having taught more than 35 years. During that time I worked with 3-20 year old students. My passion is with helping students realize that they are able to achieve. It is my responsibility to find ways to help each individual child. In addition to teaching, I have worked as an early childhood interventionist. Here I worked with parents of children ages birth-3 years old. By enabling the parent, the child and parent connection grew stronger as well.

Approach

It is my belief that each child can learn to his or her greatest ability. As a teacher, it is my job to find the strategies that help the child reach those goals. I always find and celebrate the individual child's strengths. Then celebrating those allows the areas of concern to be addressed. It is then that I am able to teach the child most fully. Teaching is not giving the answers, but enabling the child to find and discover those answers. Then learning becomes real.
