Fun Facts

I am addicted to crafting! I could look on Pinterest all day long searching for great ideas for new things to make. If I'm not inside fighting with a glue gun, then you can usually find me doing something outdoors. I love being outside and playing sports with friends or just enjoying the sunshine. I am the oldest of three girls, and I always wanted an older brother, but I like to joke with my dad that I ended up being the girliest and the most tom-boyish out of my sisters and I. It's funny, but

About Me

I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Texas at Arlington. Besides tutoring, I also work as an intern to the youth ministry at my church. I mainly work with planning events and mentoring girls in 7th-12th grade. I am a Mid Level Math and Science Major so once I get my degree I will be certified to teach 4-8 grades. People always say I am crazy for wanting to teach that age group, but I personally had some of the best times of my life in those years. I think they are very pivotal years in a student's life and they need good teachers to come along side them and help them succeed in and out of the classroom.

Although I do not have any professional tutoring experience, I feel like I have a lot of informal experience. I have always learned best by teaching and explaining things out loud to myself or others. Also, my two younger sisters have always come to me for homework help and I try to help them the best I can. The closest thing I've had to professional experience in tutoring is with a 4th grader I used to babysit. Every day she would come home from school and work on her math homework. I was able to explain things in new ways and it helped her understand the concepts that she didn't really understand in class.

My tutoring approach is simple. I want the student to understand the concepts to the best of their ability and I am going to find a way to accomplish that. If they do not understand the way they were taught it in class then I will try to help them approach the problem in a different way. I never want to just give students the answers. I want to help them see what they did wrong and correct it themselves so they can know what to do next time and become a better problem solver in the process.
