Fun Facts

People learn quickly that I have a broad scope of interests. I grew up playing sports such as basketball, football, and golf. I still actively play golf and love it very much. I am also into working out, and try to stay in the gym four to five days a week. In other free time I enjoy bass fishing on the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake. I also play guitar, and I love music. My favorite genres of music are rock, alternative, classic rock, country, and folk music.

About Me

My name is Alexander Hicks, and I am a recent graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelors degree in Biochemistry. I was on the dean's list throughout my entire undergraduate career and finished Magna Cum Laude in my graduating class. I was a pre-med student throughout my entire undergraduate career as well, and I will be attending medical school beginning in the fall of 2013.

My memphis">tutoring experiences began long ago, as I have always been one that has enjoyed teaching and helping others learn material that they once struggled in understanding. During college, I served as a chemistry lab intern, in which I assisted in teaching the undergraduate general chemistry labs. I also served as a memphis">tutor for several students outside of class in the algebra based sciences such as chemistry and physics, as well as any field of the biological sciences.

I was not always the type of student that strived for success. Although I believe the potential was always there, I did not always meet this potential during my high school years, and I was really only an average student at best during this time. For many students in their middle school, high school, and early college years, the potential is there to do great things in academics, but the motivation is not always present. For others, despite hard work ethic, some concepts or subjects still elude their understanding. My memphis">tutoring approaches target both types of students, and I try to break down challenging material into it's simplest form for understanding. I like to teach by example, illustration, and the use of analogies in my approaches. I try to always have students face problems on their own, and serve as a guide or safety net during their path to problem solving.
