Fun Facts
I love to be outdoors, especially going on bicycle rides, snowboarding, or hiking in the Sandia Mountains. I have two younger brothers, ages 12 and 19, and one older brother, age 26. I really enjoy card games, including Dominion and Magic the Gathering. Super fun! I am genuine person, outgoing, patient, extremely friendly, and a very motivated student.
About Me
I am a senior at the University of New Mexico majoring in applied mathematics and physics. I currently have a 3.62 physics GPA and a 3.72 math GPA. From 2013-2014, I was president of the Math and Stats Club at UNM. During the summer of 2014, I participated in the MCTP math summer camp. My future plans are to apply for graduate school, and to hopefully attend Stony Brook University in New York to work on a PhD in theoretical physics. The very end goal would to be a professor of some sort.
Experience
I am constantly albuquerque">tutoring friends and family with many different areas of mathematics. During an MCTP math summer camp, we had a week on mathematical education and different ways of communicating mathematics. Frog albuquerque">tutoring gives me the opportunity to have a better connection with my students, and adapt to their learning styles.
Approach
From studying math myself and helping others, these are methods that have been effective when learning/studying math. Create discussions with the students, to have the students engage in the math they are learning and to use the language of math. To have students try and explain problems. Teaching is by far one of the best ways to learn! I learn the importance of constant breaks, since no likes 3 hours of straight math! Math can be a discouraging subject to learn, to always keep a positive mind.
