Helping Students Meet Their Full Potential

Fun Facts

I began learning both English and Portuguese at the age of two, while my father was working in Brazil. When my parents moved back to the U.S., all of my Portuguese was forgotten, but I never lost my interest of languages. I currently study Spanish and a little Japanese. I am not fluid in either, but have made a personal goal of learning both by self-teaching. My ten year old son calls me "the coolest dad in the world" because I'm not too old to still love Star Wars and comic books.

About Me

I graduated from SMU with a BBA in 2000. I am currently attending two Universities: UNT and Texas A&M - Commerce. I'm taking education classes at UNT (with a 4.0 GPA) and working on my MBA at Texas A&M. Teaching is my true love, but my ultimate goal after I finish my MBA is to work as a corporate trainer where I can still put my teaching skills to use. I am also an avid Toastmaster in the Little Elm chapter and hold the officer roll of Vice President of Public Relations.

Experience

I have always had a gift for relating to and communicating with others given my open-minded disposition. Since I was a young student, peers would often seek my input when having difficulties in school. Knowing this strength within myself is what eventually lead me down the road to begin teaching. I currently work at a private school in Carrollton teaching 3rd and 4th grade English, 3rd grade Mathematics, and 4th/5th grade Creative Writing. I've been teaching there since 2011.

Approach

I believe that any child can learn, given the right teacher. The first step is assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the student to determine the right path to pursue with the lesson plan. I then use open communication to build trust and tailor my approach to fit the individual’s specific needs. I am very perceptive of children's limitations and strive to bring students to their full potential. I believe that true understanding is gained only when you can explain solutions in your own words

Algebra Tutoring

When I was in middle school I was part of the LEAP program, and was selected to take Algebra in the 8th grade. I entered high school one step ahead of other students which allowed me to take more advanced math classes and complete Mathematics through Algebra III. This carried forward into college where I advanced through Calculus II. I am currently working on my Mathematics teaching certification and have a 4.0 GPA to date.

English Tutoring

I currently teach English at the Elementary School level, and have a full spectrum of experience teaching reading, speaking, writing, and grammar. I am currently working on my teacher certification at UNT taking education classes, and have a 4.0 GPA.

Homework Coach Tutoring

If you give directions on how to be successful in school a student may improve in the short run, but if you TEACH a student study skills, time management, and how to develop their own course of action they will move closer to taking ownership of their own education. My goal as a homework coach is to do just that and give students tools and habits that will carry forward for long term success.

Math Tutoring

Mathematics has always been my strong subject, and the one in which I have felt the most comfortable. When I was in middle school I was part of the LEAP program, and was selected to take Algebra in the 8th grade. I entered high school one step ahead of other students which allowed me to take more advanced math classes and complete Mathematics through Algebra III. This carried forward into college where I advanced through Calculus II. I currently teach Mathematics at a private school and have many years of experience assessing student’s needs and how to motivate them to learn. I am currently working on teacher certification in the area of Mathematics and have taken education classes which focuses specifically on that content area. I have a 4.0 GPA in the program to date.

Study Skills Tutoring

I believe a student can be successful in any class given the right study skills. You don't have to be a genius to succeed. Planning and time management are crucial. I apply these same strategies to my own course of study taking classes concurrently at two universities. My study skill have allowed me to maintain a 4.0 GPA at UNT, and a 3.25 GPA at Texas A&M.

Writing Tutoring

Not only do I teach a Creative Writing class this year, but I was authorized by the school principal to develop a whole new curriculum for the class, because I did not feel the learning track that was already in place was beneficial to students. My writing abilities prepared me the extensive writing assignments I currently take part in at the graduate school level, composing research papers 20 pages plus in classes in which I have achieved the highest letter grade possible.

Elementary Math Tutoring

I currently teach Mathematics at the Elementary level and have many years of experience assessing student's needs and how to motivate them to learn. I am currently working on teacher certification in the area of Mathematics 4-8 which focuses specifically on that content area. I have a 4.0 GPA in the program to date.
