Fun Facts
When I was younger, I took a trip to my Grandfather's house in Santa Barbara, CA. He is an ophthalmologist who traveled all around the world, performing surgeries and collecting artifacts from across the globe. One day while at his house, I stumbled upon an old refrigerator in his basement - inside, floating in a jar, was a sheep's eye. He used to practice surgery on the eye to perfect his abilities, and each day it reminded him of all the lives he had changed. The day I saw the eye in his basement was the day I decided I wanted to be a doctor, and that passion for medicine has not faded since.
Besides my love for medicine, I am a HUGE sports guy. I have played nearly every sport there is since I was younger, but not I love playing golf, soccer, and running. Currently, I am big into running and recently ran the Cowtown Half-Marathon!
About Me
Currently, I am a freshman B.S. Chemistry major and Spanish minor at Texas Christian University. I received Dean's List honors last semester and hope to continue my academic success. I am on the pre-med track and hope to pursue a career as a Pediatric Neurologist or Ophthalmologist. I also hope to combine my Spanish speaking abilities with my medical expertise to travel around the world and perform surgeries. Eventually, I would like to start a non-profit that travels around the world performing surgeries while maintaining my own private practice surgical facility.
As a high school student, I tutored multiple students ranging from grade 6 - 12 in a variety of subject areas. Some students were regulars, while others utilized me as a resource the week or two previous to an exam to prepare. I predominantly tutored chemistry and math (a wide range of math from math-elementary/texas/fort-worth">elementary math to calculus) and helped students prepare for exams, learn better study habits and organizational skills, improve grades, and develop a better understanding of their material.
As a tutor, I believe that students often memorize how to do something rather than attain an understanding of the concept - they learn to regurgitate and forget. This has a negative impact on their learning and grades, which is why I strive to push students to understand a concept so well that they can eventually turn around and teach me at the end of the lesson. If a student is struggling understanding a concept, I will attack the concept from multiple angles until the student understands the concept better. After a student gains a deeper understanding, I continue with the repetition of problems that enforce the concept and conclude with the student teaching me the material. The process of explaining from multiple angles, repetition, and having the student teach me the lesson at the end is my tutoring approach and has consistently been proven to work well in the past.
