Fun Facts

I decided to pursue teaching after volunteering as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. After a few months of participating, I discovered that I had a passion for it and wanted to continue it as a career.

About Me

Hello my name is David. I'm currently a Biology major with a secondary education minor here at the University of Texas at Arlington. I'm a little older than the average college student due to my time in the military. Because of that, I had to redevelop my study skills. Because of that, I have a lot of patience for helping those who are struggling with school.

Experience

I've had to work hard my entire time in school. I had an undiagnosed reading disorder until my middle school years, so I was always behind. When I entered college, I had to work hard to achieve good grades because of my then-limited study skills. Due to my minor (Secondary Education), I have experience tutoring students and teaching classes.

Approach

As a child, I struggled in school and found learning to be difficult and demoralizing. In middle school, I was fortunate enough to have a teacher who, through positive encouragement and persistence, helped me realize my true potential. As a teacher and tutor, I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach; instead I believe in tailoring the approach to the student, not just for memorization, but for mastery.
