Fun Facts
I lived in Kigali, Rwanda for a year and worked voluntarily as an international school teacher. The experience really challenged me in a lot of ways, one of them being culturally. Not only was I exposed to being of all different cultural backgrounds, but I was also exposed to the mentality of a variety of age groups. I also traveled to other East African countries and am convinced that I will one day end up spending my retirement in Rwanda. I loved living there so much!
About Me
I am a recent graduate from Temple University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. My future career goal is to advance myself in American Sign Language and become a dentist, in hopes to help narrow the gap of miscommunication in serving the deaf community within the health professions. I also want to use dentistry to travel and eventually give free clinical services to peoples in other countries that are in need of or have little understanding in preventative dental care.
Experience
At Temple University there is a program called TUTeach which is geared for science majors who wanted to also graduate with a minor in education. This program taught us to make lesson plans and implement them through student teaching at several inner city school locations across Philadelphia. Although I didn't complete the program, I was a part of its curriculum for three semesters which taught me a great deal in lesson planning and how to deal with students in classroom settings.
Approach
I know that even though I stop receiving formal education, I will always continue to be a life long learner. I love learning and I feel that when children and students are given other ways to learn subjects and materials they can also find more joy in learning. I really try and understand how children learn and focus, and what the interest of students are in order to make learning more appealing and personal!
