Fun Facts
I was born and raised in Chicago so I LOVE rooting for any of my teams-even though we usually end up on the losing side. In my free time you can often find me visiting new coffee shops in the area to enjoy a chai and read a good book. Fall is my favorite season and I can't wait for the weather to turn cool in Phoenix.
About Me
I am a 2nd-6th grade reading teacher in the Phoenix area. I studied Biology and Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then went on to get my Masters in Education from ASU. My goal is to continue teaching for a couple years before returning to the healthcare field .
Experience
I was a peer tutor from high school all the way through college, eventually taking several education classes geared towards tutoring. I spent two years teaching second grade and now teach reading to elementary students with learning differences. Though I love the traditional teaching environment, where I have always felt I can have the most impact is in a small group or one-on-one tutoring setting.
Approach
Every student has the capability to learn and every student is different. If a student is struggling with a certain concept, chances are they haven't been taught in a way that makes sense to them. My approach is to first determine where we are starting from, and build on that knowledge in the most explicit and student-friendly manner possible. Learning new concepts and studying material should be enjoyable, and my goal is to make that happen.
