Fun Facts

I just returned from a semester abroad in New Zealand studying Exercise Physiology at Massey University. It was a unique opportunity to study this topic in a country of sport and rugby.

My research in engineering channels to enhance cellular density in perfused scaffolds was recently published in Acta Biomaterialia.

I was the math sterling school at Brighton High School.

I like to keep my life balanced outside of school by going skiing, boating, running, hiking, and playing soccer.

About Me

I have grown up in Utah and keep coming back because of all the fantastic recreation opportunities. I am a senior completing my Bachelor's degree at the University of Utah. I studied Biomedical Engineering for 2.5 years and work in research at the University with a focus in Biomechanics from an exercise physiology perspective. I also held an internship at Bard Access Systems on their research and development of intravenous ports team. I earned my Associate's degree from USU upon graduation of high school by taking summer, online and night classes through USU and SLCC. I've been tutoring professionally for nearly a year and also work at a math center for all ages of students.

In high school I took AP Chemistry (5), AP Calculus BC (5), AP Statistics (4), and AP European History (4). While in AP Chemistry, my teacher referred parents of struggling students to me for extra help and tutoring for high school Chemistry. I have taken at least two semesters of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Math at the U along with a variety of other engineering and general education classes. In 2010 I tutored math/utah/salt-lake-city">ACT math and science prep students at Huntington Learning Center over the summer. I am excited to start tutoring again and sharing my knowledge and skills with aspiring students.

Throughout my years of studying I noticed a pattern of how I best learn a concept and how I like to teach. The first step begins by introducing the idea and seeing how it fits into a bigger picture and contributes to the progression of learning that the student desires to follow. Next comes practicing the idea, starting with basic examples and moving to more complicated ones. Finally, I find the best way to be sure a student understands an idea and can actually use it comes by applying it. The application of a concept is a necessary process that brings the teaching and learning together. True understanding comes when the student can become the teacher and is able to teach back the concept in a way their p
