Fun Facts

One thing people would learn about me that they would not expect is that I love adventure! I have traveled to several places outside of the U.S. and I love trying new foods. This is part of education, seeing different sites, experiencing different smells, tasting different cuisines, and having an open mind for different cultures.
Another fun fact is that I love to sing! I may not be the best at it, but singing lifts my spirits.I have participated in choir and also part singing in the past.

About Me

I currently work in assisted living, in Katy, a suburb of Houston. However, I have over thirteen years as an early childhood educator. Future goals I have are to learn how to work with older children. I would also like to learn how to leverage my skills in my own future business.

Experience

I started in the federally funded early childhood program Head Start in February 2002. After nine years as a Head teacher, I transitioned out of Head Start to help facilitate a home-school cooperative in New York City. There I learned about different online programs for children to reach their individual educational goals. After two years, I worked in a different Head Start company, when I also started to tutor after school.

Approach

There is an obvious difference between a teacher who is passionate about what they do and a teacher who simply goes through the motions. This makes a tremendous impact on the student's love for learning. I want to be a tutor who engages her students with encouragement through one-on-one interaction, practice, and getting on the academic level of the student.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

It is important to understand what you read. With practice, questions and conversation, I can coach my students into understanding the content of their subjects, as well as adding expression into what they read to help them to understand better.

Spanish Tutoring

I have loved learning this language since the seventh grade. There are a lot of similarities between Spanish and English. It is also a great opportunity to learn about different cultures. By tutoring students, I can help them see that people have more differences than similarities.

Writing Tutoring

As a child, I loved to read different books. Reading helps you learn how to write, and what expressions to use. I would help my students with writing through practice and encouragement.

Homework Coach Tutoring

As a child I procrastinated a lot in doing my homework. That did not make the assignment go away, it just put more pressure as the deadline became closer! Today, I would simply coach and train my students to focus on their tasks and to be goal-oriented in completing them.

Social Studies Tutoring

Learning to read and write opens many doors to understanding the way our world works. I would help my students to understand history, geography, economics and more, by using the skills they have already picked up as avid readers and writers.

Study Skills Tutoring

Some study skills are memorization, practice, and problem solving. I would coach my students in this through persistent communication. With the skills they learned, my students would excel in school.

Spanish I Tutoring

Spanish II Tutoring

I took Spanish for four years in high school. This included a trip to Ecuador where I was introduced to Spanish literature. I can help students with the Spanish that I have learned.

Spanish III Tutoring

I can assist students with writing, translating, and understanding Spanish. In Ecuador, I was introduced to Spanish literature. Helping students will also allow me to learn with them as they progress in learning a second language.

Writing Tutoring

Writing has always been my strength. Students need to learn structure and style in written communication. It is just as important now as it has ever been.

Education Tutoring

My professional experience has been early childhood experience. I also have theoretical knowledge in education. Theory combined with experience provides knowledge that I can share with education students.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

Since childhood, I have loved reading. I can teach students how to find expression through the words and illustrations that accompany literature. This makes me a strong candidate for reading comprehension.

Study Skills Tutoring

Reading and comprehension have a lot to do with study skills. So does organization. Helping students improve their study skills will also challenge me to be sharper and more organized.
