Fun Facts
I play five instruments: Piano, Bass, Mandolin, Drums, and Voice. I am a world cheese fanatic. I taught myself how to kick field goals in high school just as a hobby at first, but ended up at the starting position on my football team. I love the 80's music and opera and sing it all the time in my car. Someday I want to learn another five instruments.
About Me
I am currently taking a semester off from Rhodes College in Memphis, but plan on transferring to the University of Texas at Dallas in the spring. I am a science/texas/dallas">Computer Science major with a Music minor. I speak Spanish and Chinese. Upon graduation, I hope to do software for a bit and then go to Business School and get my MBA. After that I would love to gain an upper level management position at a software company and focus more on clients rather than product creation. I also do websites.
Experience
As a tutor.mentor and the Webmaster at Refugee Empowerment program, I have had the privilege of working with children and teens from countries all over Africa and the Middle East. We also prepare them for college through test prep and application guidance. I also got tot tutor in high school at the Dolphin Heights After School Program in South Dallas and had the unique opportunity of tutoring children of immigrants mostly in Spanish.
Approach
I fins that every student is different. It takes more than one lesson to learn their strengths and learning style, but for the most part, they must use it or lose it. Simple memorization or tests is not enough, this is especially true for languages and arts. I have found that it really helps to relate the problem or subject matter to the students interests. This causes them to connect the activity to something they care about and strengthen those bonds in their brain.
